Baptism

Getting baptized is a really meaningful and celebrated step and we are so glad to see you are considering this next step.

In Acts 8:36 we see where a Eunuch was traveling back to Ethiopia and Philip, led by the Spirit, seized an opportunity to introduce Jesus to him. Upon his acceptance the Eunuch noticed a body of water and declared that "There is water" and asks "Why, can't I be baptized". He ordered the chariot to stop and Philip baptized him right then, right there.

So What are you waiting on?

We would love the opportunity to celebrate with you and walk you through this exciting next step. We do have a baptism service coming up soon as well as classes, so take a few moments to share your interest.

Frequently Asked Questions

About the decision to be baptized

What is baptism?

Baptism is an outward declaration of the inward transformation God has already begun in your life. It symbolizes being buried with Christ and being raised to new life. (Romans 6:4)

Who should be baptized?

Baptism is for anyone who has repented, believed in Jesus, and chosen to follow Him. It’s a step of obedience that publicly declares, “I belong to Jesus,” not a claim of perfection. (Acts 2:38)

What if I was baptized before?

If you were baptized in the past, especially as a child or during a season when you did not fully understand what it meant to follow Jesus please know this: the Bible does not teach that you must be baptized again in order to be saved. Baptism is a public step of obedience that follows personal faith, not a repeated requirement.

However, there is an important distinction for those who were baptized as infants in another tradition, or dedicated as babies here at Purpose Life Church. In those cases, the decision was made for you, not by you. Because Scripture teaches that baptism follows a conscious, personal confession of faith in Jesus, we do believe that someone who has never been baptized as a believing follower of Christ should take this step.

For those who have been baptized as believers, re-baptism is not a biblical requirement. Yet we understand that many people experience a fresh work of the Holy Spirit, a renewed surrender, or a deeper understanding of what it truly means to follow Jesus. When that happens, choosing to be baptized again can be profoundly meaningful.

For that reason, we do not refuse or discourage anyone who sincerely desires to be baptized again. We simply help ensure the decision is being made from a place of maturity, clarity, and genuine conviction, not guilt, pressure, or emotion alone.

Whether it is your first baptism or a meaningful recommitment, we joyfully celebrate every person who takes this step in obedience to the leading of the Holy Spirit.

Can children be baptized?

Yes—children can be baptized when they personally express faith in Jesus and can clearly articulate repentance, belief, and a genuine desire to follow Him. We never rush or pressure kids into this step. Instead, we partner with parents to help discern readiness in a healthy, prayerful way.
